Have you ever wondered how an essence-maker comes to understand what an essence is all about? What it can be used for? What its action is? Different companies go about this in different ways, using a combination of intuitive and empirical methods.
Some essence makers use only intuition to glean these understandings. More rarely, some use only rational methods. Vibration Magazine and the World Wide Essence Society recommend think it's important that both methods be used in order to gather the most broad and accurate information. We are both logical and intuitive and we
encourage use of all aspects; being holistic demands nothing less.
Here are some of the intuitive methods used: an essence-maker may experience an impression or receive intuitive information about its uses during the making process. Use of a pendulum, muscle testing, or other divining methods are employed to gather and refine information.
A more intellectual method involves the Doctrine of Signatures. This means that since an essence captures an energetic representation of, say, a plant, then the characteristics of that plant will have meaning for the essence's use. For example: an essence made from a plant which grows well under hard conditions will have this type of toughness as part of its energy. Careful observation will reveal these clues.
For essences from a celestial source, astrology/astronomy may be used to understand the energy present.
Empirical testing is important, too. One way is for a number of energetically-sensitive and unusually observant people to come together to experience the essence. No tester should know what is being tried. They each use the essence. Over a period of time, they record their feelings, thoughts, physical sensations, and anything else they notice during the test about themselves and the world around them. Once the test is over, then the common threads between these experiences are found. Usually, the effects of the essence are very vivid.
Feedback from the field (practitioners and customers) is also important. In this way, makers constantly expand their understanding.
The last approach is that all of the information from the methods above should be considered together and checked for consistency. We recommend that if there is significant conflict between the understandings gleaned from the above methods, then either the data are excluded or the testing process should be begun again.
