I found a book on a friend's bookshelf a year ago about breathing pink called Health, Youth and Beauty Through Color Breathing by Linda Clark and Yvonne Martine (Celestial Arts, 1976). As I worked with the techniques in this book, I found breathing color to be a potent way to stimulate life force -- and to be similar in effect to the topical application of flower essences and gem elixirs that I've specialized in for a number of years.

Yvonne Martine -- a fashion-school director -- was nearly 50 when she had a waking vision that directed her to begin to breathe pink as a way to rejuvenate. Nine months later, her sagging skin and wrinkles were gone -- she reports that she subsequently weighed 98 pounds, and her health and energy had become vibrant. Over the years she taught others her "Youthology" method with remarkable results, including helping a couple to conceive a child who had been trying for 30 years -- by breathing deep rose. Because the results are complementary to using vibrational elixirs topically, the following are some of the treatments from this book matched to vibrational topical applications that might enhance the practice of color breathing.

Topical Vibrational Treatment Methods: These can be done in various ways. The one that I find to be most potent is to put four to five drops of the flower essence or gem elixir of your choice into a clean bowl of warm water. Using a clean washcloth, submerge the cloth fully into the infused water; wring the cloth well and apply it full body. Like color breathing, this full body application is best done morning and evening, and usually imparts a clear sensation of well-being when applied. Other methods of application are to add four to five drops of an essence or elixir to misting bottles, creams, lotions or massage oils, and use these on your body. You can also put them in baths (10 to 12 drops) or large spray bottles (six to seven drops) to infuse your environment.

BREATHING PINK: One of the most interesting techniques featured in the book is breathing pink. My view is that the specific "pink with a touch of orchid" color that the book suggests to breathe simulates the particular nature and color of the healing etheric substance that mends tears in the etheric body. Flower essences and gem elixirs affect changes this same way, with the result that life force or chi is restored to flowing through the meridian system, leading to renewed physical well-being. Yvonne Martine suggests sending pink to specific areas of the body that you'd like to rejuvenate -- such as particular wrinkles. Breathing in pink three times and holding your breath while envisioning the result you want to accomplish is her method for this. She suggests that you practice this twice a day -- once when you wake up in the morning and once before going to sleep at night. Yvonne emphasizes that expressing gratitude and love for the grace that is imparted through these treatments is an integral component of success with color breathing.

Kunzite Gem Elixir is a complementary treatment to enhance the feeling of being nourished by a glow of pink light. Use this elixir morning and evening before breathing pink, using a full body application with a washcloth. The pale pink-to-lilac color and energetic action of Kunzite gem elixir (which is to ward off toxic pictures in your energy field and replace these with feelings of child-like innocence and purity) is a resonant frequency to the color of pink. Another complementary treatment might be to add two to three drops each of Magnolia flower essence and Garnet gem elixir to moisturizing lotion. Case studies with these two rose pink essences show a tendency for the skin to become smoother and firmer applying this infused lotion daily. Other pink essences and elixirs that would also work well alone or in combination: flower essences of Cecil Brunner Rosebud, Pink Hollyhock or Shasta Wild Rose, and gem elixirs of Pink Tourmaline and Rose Quartz.

BREATHING ORANGE: Mango Flower Essence. Yvonne Martine reports using "a soft, apricot-orange containing some pink" to remove pain. A year after Yvonne had rejuvenated her body by breathing pink, she fell as she was crossing the street breaking her leg. She says in her book: "I began to breathe orange to eliminate pain and it worked. I did not need to take the pain killers and tranquilizers the doctor had given me." Mango flower essence (the flowers of Mango are orange) helps you to re-pattern the way you envision your reality; adding four to five drops of Mango essence to a spray bottle and misting painful body sites before breathing orange could be a good complement. Another topical treatment might be to blend pink and orange flower essences such as Pomegranate, Ilima and King Protea with gem elixirs of Pink Coral, Fire Opal, and rose/ peach Gem Rhodochrosite, into a cream. Applying the cream to specific sore spots of the body before breathing orange might feel soothing, and enhance the effect of color breathing.

BREATHING TURQUOISE: Gem Silica Gem Elixir -- Yvonne Martine uses turquoise for losing weight. She advises taking three breaths of turquoise into the internal part of your body, and after this to breathe in pink surrounding your body, while envisioning the shape you would like to have in pink outline. Gem Silica gem elixir taken internally washes nourishing waves through the central core of your body, cleansing and purifying. Taking a few drops of this elixir internally and using Kunzite gem elixir externally full body would simulate this interesting color breathing exercise. Turquoise or Apatite gem elixirs might also work well taken internally, and complement this practice. (Apatite -- cyan blue in color -- is said to moderate the desire for food when used as an elixir; Turquoise elixir helps to purify your body.)

BREATHING BLUE: Blue Lotus Flower Essence. Yvonne Martine says that breathing blue is soothing, and useful for creating feelings of relaxation and well-being. Blue Lotus flower essence imparts vitality and effervescence to your system -- adding four to five drops of this essence to a cream or mist bottle and applying it to the body brings renewed feelings of life as divine play. Breathing blue and applying Blue Lotus to the body may stimulate new oxygen in the form of out-breath into the world, with renewed physical passion for life.
