Always Loved a Lilac — Can’t Say I loved the Essence!

Editor’s Note: The process of thoroughly testing a new essence is meant to be–but seldom is–a rigorous one, and collecting notes like Annabeth’s from many volunteers  is a part of the process.  See a collection of articles about how to do it here: Making and Testing Essences — A Virtual Booklet.

One common reaction to beginning an essence is a  brief catharsis in which issues and emotions the essence is intended to address come to the surface in a strong response called a healing crisis.  That’s what appears to have happened as Annabeth took Lilac.  See articles about it at The Healing Crisis in Flower Essence Treatment and Three More Perspectives on the Healing Crisis: A Panel Discussion. Here’s Annabeth’s report.lilacsvase-a2d

Growing up with a forbidding mother and floundering father who weren’t meant to be parents, I found a haven in my grandmother’s house. She gave richly of her love, and her yard was an island of peace. To this day, my favorite plants are the ones that grew there-irises, willows, and, most especially for those few fragrant weeks in spring, the lilacs. At a particularly rough time in my 40s, an aunt pressed some of grandma’s lilacs and sent them to me, and it was incredibly moving to touch them once more and inhale their scent.

Among the essences, Iris and Willow have been profound catalysts for me over the years, but Lilac is not a standard offering by the companies I use. Recently, Peggy Malnati was kind enough to send me a stock bottle of an essence from an ancient stand of lilacs on the remnants of the old farm in Michigan where she lives. (Peggy writes on metaphysical topics, and I’ve gotten to know her through her excellent blog, WalkSoftly2)

Becoming Essence Warriors

Posted by admin on Jul 11, 2009

By Deborah Bier, PhD, co-editor of Vibration Magazine

Editors’ Note: As part of our 11th anniversary retrospective of Vibration Magazine, we reprise here an adapted form of this article first published in the Vibration Magazine February 2003 issue. It still addresses some of the pivotal issues of our time, both in the world at large, and within the essence community. O, would the need for such applications become out-of-date.

We certainly do live in turbulent times. Often, Vibration Magazine has focused on the vast, rapid and deep changes unfolding around and within us. The anxiety and stress they create — and the opportunity and challenge they present — are considerable. Vibrational and flower essences are fantastic partners on this crazy ride we call the beginning of the 21st century.

One response has been to call forth the Warrior: in nations, communities, families, and individuals. Certainly, we all  need strength, courage, integrity, leadership, endurance and action to get through these changing times. We see that political and economic unrest has brought both military and terrorist action. But war-making is not the only face of the Warrior; automatically applying aggression to all situations is not the way of balance for a Warrior. The Warrior’s approach also includes strategy, self-less service and even surrender. Read the rest of this entry »

A Digital Library of Essence Articles — Vibration’s Virtual Booklets

Posted by admin on Jul 4, 2009

A couple of years into our publishing process, Vibration’s editors realized that we were accumulating a valuable online collection of essence articles unlike any other in its breadth and inclusiveness. We’d actively recruited dozens of essence makers and senior practitioners to write for us–it was either that or continue to write most of the magazine ourselves!  We fostered an atmosphere in which essence users were also urged to share personal stories of how particular essences helped them resolve life issues. We conducted polls and regularly monitored search engine terms to determine what our readers were interested in reading and then developed special theme issues devoted those concerns.

Despite the fact that our articles came from a great many International Authors – every continent but Antarctica — we were noticing that certain topics came up again and again in article submissions and reader requests. Rather than have our audience laboriously hunt through back issues for a gem or two, we came up with the idea of a series of Virtual Booklets.  These are collections of articles on recurring topics like Animals, Pets, and Essences, Children and Essences, Body Work and Essences, and Essence Making and Testing. The VBs, as we dubbed them, were readily expandable, as it was simple to add links when new articles were published. Let me describe some of my own favorites and then list them all so you can visit the ones that interest you most.  Read the rest of this entry »

The Weirdness of Essence Education

Posted by admin on Jun 28, 2009

By Deborah Bier, PhD, co-editor of Vibration Magazine Blog, and maker of Whole Energy Essences

Editors’ Note: In this continuing look backwards at Vibration’s 11 years of publication, we comment upon three trends below. First, Vibration has a long history of calling out both the strengths and weaknesses of our field in a variety of editorials we published over the years, including some about essence education, from which the below is adapted.  Second, Vibration is the only place we know of that publishes such a broad number of viewpoints and voices about vibrational and flower essences without sanitizing them to meet any single manufacturers’ self-interest. Third, our articles are not dedicated to the products of any single essence maker; we find it important to feature a wide variety. Read the rest of this entry »

Part Two: The World Wide Web as a Healing Tool — Evoking the Essence of Essences

Posted by admin on Jun 19, 2009

©2009 by Donna Cunningham, MSW  (Part 2 of 2)

This month Vibration Magazine celebrates its 11th year and has begun to explore the potentials of the blogosphere as both a medium for disseminating information about flower essences and for healing in and of itself.  Last week we traced the evolution of  Vibration’s work to evoke the power of essences through powerful art, color healing, and attunement to plants.   Here are two more methods we’ve relied on.  Read the rest of this entry »

The World Wide Web as a Healing Tool–Evoking the Essence of Essences

Posted by admin on Jun 12, 2009

2009 by Donna Cunningham, MSW  (Part One of Two)

For the past 11 years, during the richly fertile earth sign Taurus, we at Vibration have paused to reflect on what our ezine has achieved over the past year, how far we have come since the last anniversary of our birth, and what new seeds we wish to plant in the years to come.

From the earliest issues, in 1998, your editors, who doubled as web designers and frequent contributors, explored the seemingly endless potentials of a web-based magazine.  Freed of the costs of color printing, paper, and postage, we worked for a visually-enhanced and pleasing format.

As the work unfolded and continued to develop, however, we slowly understood that, far from being a magazine devoted only to tracking the healing potentials of the essences, we were also beginning to tap into a vast, unsuspected resource–the healing power of the internet itself. It’s Vibration Magazine’s 11th Anniversary!

7685609thbVibration Magazine, the Journal of Vibration and Flower Essences has now officially entered into its second decade of publication. From my and my co-Editor, Donna Cunningham’s viewpoint, it doesn’t seem possible that we have published over 40 issues, though we indeed have done so.

Successful Trademark Challenge to “Bach Flower Remedies”

Posted by admin on Apr 11, 2009

7704226thbEditors’ Note: Continuing on our theme of “The Wide, Weird, Wonderful Web,” we are bringing news we got word of via the Internet.

Many of us were taught never to write the term “Bach Flower Remedies” on a dosage bottle because it would be a violation of someone’s trademark to do so. Well, this may not actually be the case.

Julian Barnard of Healing Herbs, maker of the absolutely lovely Bach Flower Remedies put out under that label’s name, has been challenging Nelson Bach’s trademark to the term “Bach Flower Remedies” for a couple of decades now. Late last year we found out both via email and by Googling around for additional information that Julian prevailed in his challenge in both the United Kingdom and the European Union Courts.
