"Although attempting to bring about world peace through the internal transformation
of individuals is difficult, it is the only way... I believe that love, compassion,
and altruism are the fundamental basis for peace."
The Dalai Lama, quoted in the foreward to
Peace in Every Step, Thich Nhat Hanh, Bantam Books, 1991.
In the Buddhist tradition, one strives towards Enlightenment not for one's self, personal gain
or individual accomplishment. Rather, one strives
towards Enlightenment because any progress in evolving consciousness uplifts ALL of humanity.
To us, this means that we are all connected in ways we cannot even begin to fathom. Our job
is to learn to accept this connection, and to employ it as a tool of healing -- not just
for ourselves and those personally known to us, but even for those we will never meet. If we want
to truly improve the lot of others, we must create peace, joy and spiritual awareness within ourselves.
The last edition of Vibration Magazine -- a special double-sized issue -- explored how to use intention
and other techniques to enhance the power of healing ourselves through essences. It included articles by Dr. Wayne Dyer
on the
Power of Intention, Cynthia Kemp on
how intention empowers essence work, Dr. Deborah Bier on
using intention to make flower essences, and many more, including particular essences to help
strengthen your use of intention.
If you have not yet read that issue, that would be a good place to start. And if you were as dazzled
as we were by the ideas and techniques our writers expressed, by all means
go back and review that edition.
In this edition -- Vibration's Eighth Anniversary issue -- we ask our readers to extend these
ideas even further; using essences and the power of intention do nothing short of helping heal
all of the Earth and its inhabitants -- past, present and future. Healing all on Earth may sound overly-ambitious,
but we believe our readers can play a role in doing just that... and right where you're sitting at the
screen of your computer! You don't have to wear any special clothing, buy anything, or be of any particular
religious persuasion. You only have to have compassion, and a wish to be of service. Last time, Robina Hearle's
simple but heart-felt article showed how she works to heal the globe's hot spots by
Putting Essences on a Map.
The articles in this issue -- and the special tools presented here -- take the possibility of helping the earth's
inhabitants even further.
All the Pieces Were Already in Vibration!
The funny thing is that we had NO idea how we were going to follow up our last issue on Intention and Essences.
It was so powerful and so full of new information, we worried that Vibration had reached its peak, and that the
only future direction it could go was down. But one morning, Deborah awoke having received new inspiration through
a dream (as is often her habit): this new edition would contain tools to help us send healing through essences around
the world. This included those who had never heard of vibrational essences, had no access to them, or who might
never afford to buy them -- people who may never know that Vibration Magazine exists.
We both realized that we had been preparing readers for a long time for this exercise... that all the ingredients
were there already in previous articles in Vibration. The Intention edition was just a final stepping-stone to putting
all the pieces into place. We only had to put them together to show how it is done.
Briefly, energy healing is a non-local phenomenon, since it acts in a realm where time and distance are not obstacles.
It works via intention. And once you reach a certain level of attunement to the subtle energies, you would not
actually have to TAKE the essences in order for them to work. Therefore, INTENDING that the essences get to where they
are most needed can be powerful.
Each article in this particular issue will be followed by a meditation page that will
help you focus on all those around the world who need the type of understanding, awareness, and growth offered by
the essences you've just learned about. If you decide to take any of these (or other) essences, you can consciously
act as a surrogate for those around the world who need this essence. We recommend you add to your intention that you
offer your healing thoughts for the highest good of all concerned.
Transmitting the essences to others in thought-form is no longer a radical concept, though it may be new to you.
Many essence practitioners are already using thought to send the energies of essences to others at a distance -- they
call it "beaming." The entire branch of energy medicine called Plant Spirit Medicine is based on attuning to the
plant devas and receiving healing directly from them. (See Alexis Rotella's article
Needless Needles and other Joys of Planet Spirit Medicine.)
Last time, Ivory Phoenix got us to think about extending our own healing through essences to others when she wrote about
her use of the
Buddhist Practice, Tonglen.
Taking Essence Transmission to a Global Level
All we are suggesting in this issue is to extend these ideas further to heal others around the globe who
are suffering -- people you don't even know can be uplifted by your thoughts. A word of caution, however,
for those who might consider sending the energy of the essences to SPECIFIC people without their permission:
just don't. OK, that's two words of caution. Never impose healing on another individual, no matter how much YOU
might think you know what they need. That says that you believe you know more than the soul of the individual,
which may have chosen and created some very painful experiences to learn certain important lessons, or to develop
the soul through overcoming difficulties. Real healing happens only in a free-will zone; all the rest is manipulation
and attempts to squash another's power to choose.
Remember though, that this method of working for global well-being is NOT a substitute for being active in other ways. We have to come down from our ivory meditation rooms and put our higher consciousness into every-day life and activism.
If you need to sort out the reasons for not doing healing on specific individuals without permission, it may
help to read a couple of our previous articles. We discussed the need for asking permission in an
ethical debate for flower essence
practitioners. We also published a model
code of ethics for essence work, which said among other things,
"I treat only the individual who seeks my services and never treat someone
without their express conscious permission. To treat someone without their
conscious knowledge is intrusive and violates the rights of the individual.
The only exception to this is in the treatment of children, whom I can treat
with parental permission."
Nothing in this code or in our ethical philosophy contradicts the global healing focus we are suggesting.
It is perfectly honorable to send out the energies of the essences in a GENERAL way, so long as you specify
that it only goes to those who may be wanting and seeking healing from their suffering.
Keeping it all in balance is important: global healing seems so big that many of us can feel overwhelmed. Our article about essences about burn-out in helping professionals seems perfect to re-read about now.
Using the Meditation Pages in this Issue to Focus Your Intent
Each time we take essences, read about essences, or think about them, we can dedicate them to those around the
world who need them. We can act as surrogates in taking them. And each time you read an article in this particular
issue, think about all the people around the world who need but cannot get the tools they need for their healing.
If you've learned something or grown through an article, you can send out the intention that the lesson become available to theirs. You can do the same each time you take or give another person essences, too -- after all, are we not all a part of the single One?
If you use the "Next" arrow at the top and bottom of each article in this edition, you will be directed to
a page that contains a suggested intention for meditation to help you do just that.
Each is set up to stay on your screen for about 30 seconds before automatically forwarding your screen to the next article.
This is just long enough to form and send a brief intention outwards to those all around the world. Feel free
to spend a longer span of time, or to use other intentions than the ones we recommend. Use the meditation pages
to send the healing available through the essences and understandings presented in the articles.
Send healing to the ancestors.
Send it to children without loving parents.
Send it to all people suffering in abusive relationships.
Send it to future generations.
Send it to pregnant women and their children.
Send it to those who have died, but who have not yet passed over.
Send it to those who live where there is war raging.
Send it to those who may not openly practice their faith.
Send it to our lovely planet, Gia -- a living being herself.
And so on, and so on...
And Now We are Eight!
With this issue of Vibration, we complete our eighth year of continuous publication -- one of the
few magazines that cover many different essences, not just the products of one manufacturer.
Our archives contain over 350
articles by a wide variety of authors from
around the globe -- not just articles by one company, but by practitioners, and by essence users as well.
(In fact, we have writers from four different continents in this issue alone!)
The essences they write about
are from plants and essence companies from all over this planet. Our readership is international as well.
So it is fitting that we cap off our eighth year with an issue that focuses on global healing.
Numerologically, eight is a number of fruition and harvest, of power and influence. In astrology, the eighth
house and the eighth sign, Scorpio, represent healing and rebirth; in the Tarot the eighth major arcana is the Strength card.
The oroubourous, an occult symbol with a snake eating its own tail, is also shaped like an eight, and it
represents the never-ending cycle of life. If you turn the number 8 on its side, you get the infinity symbol. To celebrate, we gave ourselves a new global logo, too (see the masthead at top).
We do believe that the healing potential of the essences is infinite, as is the power of individuals to heal
themselves, others, and the planet. But do we believe that the ability of Vibration Magazine to keep on growing
and improving is infinite? Gulp. Sure we do -- stick around for our ninth year of publication and see what unfolds.
Personally, we can't wait!
