Whether we respond to our environment with faith or fear depends in large part upon the emotional and energetic patterns rooted in our chakras. These patterns, when expanded, bring us into a state of authentic balance, well-being and faith. However, because we incarnate into this lifetime with karma to burn off, our chakra patterns typically fluctuate between expansion and contraction. As we burn off our karmic debt, this fluctuation cycle is part of the process through which we heal old emotional wounds and create new ones. True healing is the transformation not only of body, but also mind and emotions, down into the depths of our spirit. We are not always able to take an "objective pulse" of where there are contracted emotional patterns in our chakras. Sometimes we are in such a state of emotional discord that we cannot even see where we are, much less be able to make the connection between the problem and the remedies we need. Vision, imagination, inspiration, and awareness of our high truth are all channels our soul uses to inform us that we are making progress along our mystical path. The information we receive along these routes comes in "light bulb moments." It is through the centre of our Sixth Chakra that we receive divine light. Making our way upwards through the upper triangle of our chakra symbology, we find that this centre (located above and between our physical eyes) is identified in Eastern philosophy as "the third eye." It is through this centre that we have access to an innate understanding of the unknowable. Successful transition to this 'place,' however, requires that we have first transformed the emotional patterns of the first five centres with authenticity. Otherwise, we will continue to intellectualize our light-bulb moments and dismiss those that we cannot explain.
Thus, transformation of the emotional patterns in the heart centre is particularly important to our progress, for living universal brotherhood is grounded in the heart. We need to remember that the power of words and sound, our words grounded in the throat centre, does not guarantee us an automatic entrée into the place where we receive flashes of knowledge and guidance. If we have been authentic in the emotional excavation of the lower chakras and that of the throat, the positive energy of our worldly will in those centres facilitates our Heart Chakra to open and expand. When our heart centre is open, it becomes a potent sacred space where fusion between the expanded emotional patterns of the lower chakras can take place, with the expansion of the Sixth Chakra.
The emotional patterns of a contracted Sixth Chakra can manifest in a variety of dysfunctional and abusive behaviors such as rage, attempts to control others and dictatorial domination. We can also become what psychologists refer to as delusional. Among the characteristics of this state are delusions of grandeur. In other words, the individual can develop an inflated sense of worth, power, and knowledge or believe that they have a special relationship with a deity or famous person. When this happens, they can take on the mantle of a self-professed guru, which not only invites further derailment from their soul's intended mystical path, but derails those whom they beguile as well. When the Sixth Chakra is contracted, when the mind is in its struggle for dominance over the soul, we can consider Cherry Plum. This was the remedy Bach suggested for the mind being overworked and unable to take strain. An important consideration of Cherry Plum is its ability to promote internal resolution between mind and soul and thus foster a sense of peace. On the one hand, when the Sixth Chakra expands as in the sense of demonstrating balanced emotional patterns, we have an opportunity to access vision, imagination, and our high truth. Nevertheless, in this opportunity, we must bear in mind that this is also the centre that fosters our psychic abilities; and, in this, there is an inherent danger in expansion, as in being too open.
Bach described the contracted Aspen state as experiencing an unknown mental fear that comes over you like a cloud, bringing fear, terror, anxiety, and even panic without the least reason. These fears are often accompanied with trembling and sweating from the object of fear of something unknown. Conversely, according to Bach, the positive attributes of Aspen promote fearlessness because of the knowledge that the universal power of love stands behind all. Once we come to that realization, we are beyond pain and suffering, beyond care or worry or fear.
Thus as we strive to obtain a faithful picture of ourselves, we must consciously be aware that balance is of the utmost importance in the sixth centre. But when we achieve this balance, spiritual teachings tell us that there are marvellous rewards. Open to vision, inspiration, imagination, our high truth, and a different way of knowing, we are reminded once again that all great work is done quietly and with certainty.
