How Chakras are Changing -- The Next Stage in Human Development
©2006 Dr. Deborah Bier, publisher and co-editor of Vibration Magazine
wood jasper pendant with sterling silver wireFor more than 15 years, during meditation, I've received and practiced information about the evolution of the ancient chakra system. For the first year, I was not guided to teach this material, nor to even talk about it. Partly this was because my own place in the evolutionary process needed to be furthered. Partly, it was because it had not been time to activate these changes in others.

During the years that have passed, I have been taught many aspects of this topic in the same way, and have applied each of them to myself. Some aspects I have been guided to teach; others, I was shown to share only at some proper time in the future.

I'm certainly not the first person to speak about this being a time of massive planetary change... nothing new there. For millennia, cultures around the world have predicted and taught this. And it's fascinating that all of their predictions intersect; many of us in modern times have received this information over and over again, too. What will come to be? Who can say for certain? One thing is clear: change on a large scale is underway.

However, we cannot evolve as individuals outside of the planetary processes of evolutionary growth. We must grow in conjunction with the Earth's process. This is part of the synergistic, co-creative relationship we have with Gaia, as well as with one another and the Force that created it all.

What I have learned is that chakras as we have known them have been in a state of transition for some time now... an incubation of seeds of future expansiveness and change. This reflects the fact that as beings, we too are only seeds of what we shall become.

The placement, number, relationships between, colors/sounds/functions associated with the widely-accepted ancient 7-body-chakra system are simply not set in stone. If we cling to the idea that these cannot change, then we are bucking what I think of as one of the laws of the Universe, which is that ALL things without exception undergo change.

So, we will not be able to say with any degree of accuracy: "Oh, the first chakra is located at the base of the spine; it's all about survival, the color red, essences made from red flowers therefore are best for survival issues, etc, etc." To insist on this forevermore is to not allow ourselves smooth and easy evolution. We may vote instead for what we believe is comfortable... predictable. But in the long run, rejection of inevitable change is just plain stubborn and dogmatic... and it's likely you'll not like the results of such inflexibility.

We each can choose to accept these changes, and ride the wave to the next place. Or we can fight the changes, staying attached to the old systems. Those who do will be pulled under the wave; some might even drown in the process.

If you want the more graceful way out -- that is, to choose to go with change rather than fight it -- it's important to do this consciously. Because the process will occur whether it is consciously participated in or not. If change is not embraced with acceptance and awareness, often what will occur is some kind of shock or trauma to precipitate a transition. A large enough trauma will help us strip down our old belief systems, permitting new ideas to emerge because they help us to recover. Not that conscious acceptance of change guarantees a smooth ride; you might be in a wicked big hurry and do it all at once, which is NOT an easy path. But nonetheless, it IS one path!

2 funky pearl pendants in sterling and gold wireI hear from students and clients fairly often now that they are finding energy centers in "odd" places, some of which are not centered or bilateral. They are puzzled... is something wrong with them? Should they "fix" themselves? I encourage them to simply allow these centers to develop, and to trust to their inner wisdom that their growth will follow the path of the highest good -- even if they don't consciously know what that is. Letting things be, to grow without forcing their direction through the power of our will, is an important life lesson, and embodies some powerful intentions (for more about the power of intention, see the November 2005 issue of Vibration Magazine).

I find the strongest and most effective path is to consciously set out with the intention of releasing any old, out-of-date patterns and ways of being that no longer reflect the reality of the present time. Additionally, adding the intention of permitting these patterns to come to completion before their release, and to evolve into new patterns appropriate to our changing reality will help move you from the past to the present, and then into future changes. You will find that this is not a one-time deal: evolution happens in a process that often is accomplished in steps. So renewing these intentions regularly will give you the biggest result for your effort.

What do these new patterns look like? I'm not entirely sure, but I do have some persistent ideas that come to my consciousness as I work with this information, four of which I will offer here. First, start watching for stronger relationships forming between chakras. Before, the system focused on the chakras themselves; now we may be seeing the emphasis move to the way they relate to one another. Also, see if you find a centering of energies around the heart, as we move from the more material and mental view to a more heart-centered plan. You may also notice energy centers developing where you don't expect them; this is a sure sign you need to release your expectations, by the way! And lastly, you may find that each chakra will contain more than one color, breaking the age-old expectation of one-color-per. You may even find all colors in all chakras... who can say where we will end up?

fossilized sponge coral pendant in gold wireDon't be surprised if you find that this same process applies to other systems held to be immutable and therefore dependably dear. To trample a few more sacred cows, these systems also include (but are not limited to) the meridian system, the etheric body system, most yoga traditions, Earth ley-line locations and functions, homeopathy, all laying-on-of-hands healing traditions and systems, and even (gasp!) the way flower and other vibrational essences are "supposed to work."

Many of the articles in this edition will show you new views on essences and the chakras amidst the changes each are undergoing. Additionally, below are some flower and other vibrational essences that help us move better with change instead of fighting the inevitable. Each of these link to articles from Vibration Magazine's archives. Also included are links to past editions with applicable themes.

Rock Water, Effervescence, Walnut; Whole Energy Essences' Pattern Breaking Kit; Dill; August 2003 edition on Essences for Strength; February 2003's Changing Times edition; March 2000's edition on essences for the Stress of Modern Times; and Vibration's Humor Booklet (because laughter tends to make us see things in a whole new light).
May we each gain the wisdom to complete the lessons of our old ways, and to gracefully adapt to the new, moving forward together into an unknown -- but inevitable -- future. Amen.
