In researching the chakras for this issue, your editors visited many web sites and were pleased to find that many essence companies currently offer single essences or combinations for all of the seven well-known chakras. We couldn't feature articles by all of them, but when we got to the Crown Chakra in our series, we didn't have a longer piece about it, so we seized the opportunity to do a survey article, drawing on descriptions by a variety of companies for the essence or essences they suggest for the Crown Chakra. Below we have linked to the relevant pages on their sites and to their descriptions. Some of the companies are personally known to us and some are not, but as always we would suggest perusing the whole site to get a sense of whether you personally feel connected to what they are offering. For an overview of the Crown Chakra itself, we visited the series of articles writen by Phylameana lila Desy on the website Your Guide to Holistic Healing. She says, "The Crown -- or Seventh -- Chakra is associated with the color violet or white. We use the Seventh Chakra as a tool to communicate with our spiritual nature. It is through this vortex that the life force is dispersed from the universe into the lower six chakras. It has been referred to as our 'GOD SOURCE,' but this terminology might be confusing to anyone who equates God with religious dogma. Because of this I choose to call it a spiritual connection or communicator. This chakra is often pictured as a lotus flower opening to allow spiritual awakening in an individual. The Crown Chakra could also be considered the well from which intuitive knowing is drawn. Frequent Vibration contributor Martin Bulgerin says on his website that Queen Anne's Lace is helpful for the Crown Chakra. "This remedy has a reputation for enhancing psychic abilities of various kinds. My impression of its energy is that Queen Anne's Lace opens the Crown Chakra, making one more sensitive to subtle influences that surround us. The flower presents a curious signature. When it first opens, it resembles a little radar dish for receiving incoming signals. Later, it turns into a white dome with a single scarlet floret in the middle. This dome resembles the top of the cranium (the site of the Crown Chakra), with the scarlet floret representing the fontanelle of the infant, a sign that the crown is still open. I use this essence in a combination when teaching my students to tune into auric sensations, since it makes such perception much easier."
Tree Frog Farm cites Marshmallow Flower Essence (Althaea officinalis) for this chakra. They note: "The essence helps support whole brain functioning by bringing higher white and purple frequencies through the Crown Chakra into the brain. It brings an I AM ease, integrating higher white and purple frequencies into the brain. The plant itself has a long history of medicinal, food and wildlife uses. Marshmallow is a beautiful tall mallow that grows wild in marshy brackish wetlands, and is easily cultivated in a garden. It has soft fuzzy grey-green leaves, and white flowers with purple stamens. Marshmallow was used for centuries as a food by Romans, Chinese, Egyptians, and Syrians. In Europe, marshmallow was used primarily as a medicine. Today, herbalists still make poultices from its leaves and apply this to skin to reduce inflammation. Making a tea of marshmallow leaves and root releases the mucilage, or gummy secretion that is helpful for soothing sore throats, chapped skin, and minor wounds."
Living Flower Essences calls the Seventh or Crown Chakra the Divine Communion Element, bringing expanded consciousness, clairvoyance, and bliss. The essence in their chakra kit for this center is Saguaro (Cereus giganteus). Their description says: "The Guardian Saguaro promotes a cleansing effect and releases stagnation and tension at all levels throughout our body. Helps us to restore, stretch, and expand beyond any self-imposed limitations. Guides us toward expanded consciousness and embracing new ways of being." For the Crown Chakra, Hummingbird Remedies offers Artichoke (Cynara scolymus) flower essence, a powerful chakra amplifier. They say: "It charges the kundalini to push through blocks in a closed Crown Chakra. It especially helps those of a practical nature, perhaps manifesting as spiritual rigidity, who hold the body in such self-control that nothing gets through to connect the circuits. Takes the 'lid' off the Crown Chakra, to let the pent-up spiritual force rush through; provides a euphoria not often encountered as they have been working so hard on their spiritual growth they have forgotten to relax, open up and have fun on the journey. Aligns spiritual and mental bodies to dissolve judgment blocks around evolution. Releases rigidity around spiritual concepts; allows one to let others have their own experience without judgment. Brings more humor, softening, graciousness in the quest, and easier access of dreams. Lightens intensity in spiritual purpose; desire and direction is still there, but one is having more fun with the process of evolution."
Morningstar, which features a line of seashell essences, recommends the following essences for the Crown Chakra: "Moon Snail cleanses the subconscious, stimulates problem-solving dreams. Violet Tourmaline opens and balances the Crown Chakra, drawing in very high, Spiritual energy. Helps to enhance higher guide connections, draws magical teachers and helpers. Linking with the Divine mind through which anything is possible. Mugwort is for psychic development, and understanding dreams and symbols in greater depth." These are only a few of the many essence makers whose sites we visited in researching the Crown Chakra. What does it say that so many essence makers have offerings that support the healthy development of the Crown Chakra -- and that they are all from different flowers and gems? Essences tend to partake of their surroundings, and wherever you go in the world, people have pretty much the same needs. It's the solutions to those needs that are so different. The need for a healthy, balanced connection between oneself and the Higher Realms is just about universal, yet people in different parts of the world draw on local plants and minerals to meet that need. Similarly, people around the world find very different ways of worshiping and connecting with our Creator. Whatever you do in earnest and with a pure intention, it seems to work!
